The whole nine-yards
The options for your big day are limited only to your imagination and taste.
Cultural Weddings
At Shompole you can have a small, intimate, ceremony steeped in cultural symbolism as a Laibon pronounces a blessing on your union.
This is followed by a procession under the raised spears of young Morani men- and all the while you are sheltered in the cool shade of the fig forest near the pink-fringed Lake Natron. Shompole Lodge only accommodates fairly small parties.
There are other cultural wedding options available. However, it is advisable to first of all have a civil ceremony at home first.
Balloon Ride
Why walk when you can fly? If you really want to wed in style, we suggest a ceremony in the sprawling plains of our world famous National Parks followed by a balloon ride for the bridal party followed by a champagne bush breakfast. Options for this include the Masai Mara, Amboseli National Park and Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha.
Beach Ceremony
East African beaches really are world class and there is no shortage of hotels to choose from. This option gives you the ease of having a large number of guests easily accommodated plus frequent daily flights for guests who are only staying for the ceremony.
Another option that needs more planning but holds appeal is a wedding in the ancient coastal town of Lamu. Remaining untouched by civilisation this town still retains its Afro-Arab charm from the 7th Century when it was a bustling port of call. Carved Swahili doors, narrow streets, donkey carts and fishermen on their dhows are still very much a part of life in Lamu.
However, the hotels and lodges on this island have all the latest mod-cons you’d expect anywhere else. A fabulous juxtaposition of the ancient on the modern.
Up-country Charm
Less than an hour’s drive from the city is Naivasha- a small lake town in the Rift Valley. Hotels and lodges here can cater for weddings of any number. Naivasha is peppered with Acacia groves and Euphorbia Candelabra forests and views of the jade coloured lake. If you want total privacy in Naivasha you may opt to rent out a private house within a conservancy for your occasion.
Nuptials in the City
A no-fuss city wedding may be more your style. In which case there’s no need to sacrifice on style. There are many boutique hotels in Nairobi suited to small intimate gatherings.
The Fairmont Norfolk is over a hundred years old and full of colonial charm, but you may also choose to go for the French-styled Alan Bobbé’s Bistro. More options available on request
